First, you should know that I love Heather Wardell, and her Toronto Series is amazing, and so inexpensive when you buy the colection! Anyway, about this one, it's about a normal person who is moderately successful, moderately struggling, happy in the normal way, wishes she'd done some things differently if the outcome would have been what she had hoped, etc., but overall a normal, good person. She suddenly wins the 50 mil. In Canada, the IRS doesn't swoop down and take a huge chunk out, so it's flat-out 50 mil... in Canadian dollars, which are generally worth more than US dollars right now. Anway, she keeps her head about her, and takes some smart steps before she rushes to the lottery office and claims her money, but still, the world invades, everybody she ever has known now claims her as their "best friend" and asks for huge amounts of money, and the only one who treats her the same are her sister and her truly closest friends. What does she do? Does she buy an island? Does she buy a villa in France? Does she quit work entirely and just become a bonbon eating princess? What would you do? What if "the man of your dreams" comes back into your life now that you have all the money you've ever hoped for? Is he truly "the one?" Does she even like herself now, or him, or her "friends?" She surprises herself and her family, and her family actually breaks up due to someone's actions, and that part is very, very disappointing, but it's all about human nature and finding true happiness. Read it, it will make you think, as do a lot of Heather Wardell's books. Another amazing read is "Planning to Live" by the same author, which will make you realize that your life is great, and you should feel the blessings of your life as it is, and choose to live it as it is, not always struggle to force it to be better, love yourself and your friends and family and enjoy. That is what life is about, and Heather Wardell's books often are about that! Read it! Love it! Also, subscribe to Heather's monthly newsletter, she sends a short story each month for free. Cool.

"Fifty Million Reasons" is one more of Heather Wardell's well-written enjoyable novels! This time, she explores a question many people have asked themselves: "What would I do if I won the lottery?". Well, not me....I would have to start buying tickets first! Angela, playing the same number she has played weekly for years...the combination of her siblings birth dates...wins fifty-million dollars! She always knew winning would change her life, but she never expected the myriad of ways that would happen! When she didn't have much, Angela was good at giving what she had away, but now that the figures involved are so much larger, everything becomes more complicated. Who do you share your good fortune with? How much do you give to parents, siblings, friends? What about those people who resent your new found wealth and want nothing from you...or worse, want more than you gave them? Old friends and lovers come out of the woodwork, and the post office delivers bags and bags of letters...all requesting...some demanding...a share of your newly won money. Where once you were generous, do you become a tightwad? Are people really your friends are just vying to get their hands on your money? What if the people you want to help the most resent the money you offer? Wardell examines all of these issues in a humorous yet heart-felt way in this really fun novel. The reader cheers for the hero and heroines and jeers for the villains as Wardell explores all the possibilities facing lottery winners. Maybe I should start buying tickets after all....NOT!

I have read all of Heather Wardell's books. I always look forward to reading her latest books. I loved the idea of this story. Winning 50 Million dollars would be amazing. Althought it would have been fun to read a story about all the great things you could do with that kind of money, I think the direction Heather choose to go with this story was more realistic. Having that kind of money so quickly and coming from a lottery isn't always easy and fun. So many people who have won the lottery talk about so many struggles with what to do with the money and all the people who want that money. Although I was disappointed in some of the decisions Angela made at the end of the story, I still enjoyed reading this book and it gave me something to think about if I were so lucky to win a lottery. Great read over all and always fun to see previous characters make a come back in the story!!

I am a big fan of Heather Wardell!! I Absolutely love all of her books. I love the fact that you can totally see yourself in these stories. I try to imagine myself in Angela's place and what I would do with 50 million dollars. I'm sure there would be many of my so-called friends coming to me for a handout, just as they did in the book. I probably would've done the same thing she did, minus the thing with he who should not be named due to spoilers. Anyway if you have never read any of Heather's books then I totally recommend that you do!!
